Canada Customs proposes new coding rules for carriers hauling in-bond freight
OTTAWA (Aug. 7, 2001) — Canada Customs and Revenue Agency is proposing that, by April 2, 2002, every carrier importing in-bond commercial shipments into Canada be required to have the cargo control number in a bar-coded format, using their own unique carrier code on the cargo control document.
Customs Proposal P-009, “Importing In-Bond Commercial Shipments,” would also apply to freight forwarders for secondary reporting and control of in bond cargo that is consolidated/de-consolidated in Canada.
Post audit carriers would be required to print their own cargo control documents and indicate “Post Audit” on the cargo control document.
Canada Customs is looking for comments or suggestions on this proposal by Sept. 28, 2001.
