Canadian National to build Toronto-area intermodal terminal
MILTON, Ont. (Feb. 19, 2001) — Canadian National, Canada’s largest railway, said it will build a major intermodal terminal south of Milton, Ont., 20 miles west of Toronto.
The new terminal will be located between Tremaine Road, First Line, Britannia Road, and Lower Base Line and is scheduled to open in late 2002, the company said. CN’s existing intermodal terminal in the Toronto area is located in Brampton, Ont., south of Highway 7 and Airport Road.
The new Milton terminal will initially employ about 100 people and occupy about 100 acres of land.
CN transported 1.12 million intermodal units in 2000, an increase of 13% over the previous year, and saw its intermodal revenue grow by the same amount to $919 million.
