Carlisle Pumps Up New Brake Actuator

by Tire groups lobby for reserve pressure capacity requirement for tires

The trailer-mounted Gen 5 HydraStar electric/hydraulic trailer brake actuator from Carlisle Industrial Brake and Friction is designed to give you more control and faster stopping power and to eliminate the feeling of being “pushed” by the trailer, as well as problems associated with backing a trailer uphill and the drag common to surge brakes on downhill grades.

The HydraStar line offers three maximum pressure-rated units (1,000 psi, 1,200 psi, and 1,600 psi) to match trailer axle and brake configurations and prevent seal damage from over-pressurizing the trailer brakes. Installation and wiring have been simplified and a bleeder fitting has been added to make brake bleeding easier.

The actuator requires an electric in-cab controller. Carlisle’s model HSC Controller lets the driver adjust the trailer brake while sitting behind the wheel. The updated design also has eliminated the need for an accessory switch, requiring power only when the brakes are applied.
