CBP raises border crossing fee
WASHINGTON — U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) says it is raising the truck user fee for carriers by 10 percent effective April 1, 2007.
The fee will increase from US$5.00 to US$5.50 per crossing. The annual truck decal will continue to be US$100, however.
Meanwhile, new controversial Animal Plant Health Inspection Service announced to pay for additional plant and food inspections at the border, is still scheduled to kick-in on June 1.
The levy which adds 5.25 per crossing or another $105 a year to the standard border crossing fee, was delayed by 90 days because of pressure from Canadian trucking groups and government officials. Those representatives, which includes the Canadian Trucking Alliance, continue to lobby for the fee to be cancelled completely.
