CCMTA and CVSA to host brake conference in Toronto
The Canadian Council of Motor Transport Administrators (CCMTA) and the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) are joining at Truck World 2000 in an attempt to put a stop to brake-related vehicle defects.
The North American Brake Safety Conference is part of the continuous Operation Air Brake program that has been approved by the CCMTA, CVSA and the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration. It will call on regulators, vehicle manufacturers, carriers, fleet and maintenance managers and parts suppliers, to participate in a series of plenary and break-pout sessions. Experts and speakers-including Motor Equipment Manufacturers Association’s engineering director Jim Lawrence and government adviser on brake safety Richard Radliski-will be selected for the event, which takes place at Toronto’s National Trade Centre, Sept. 15-16.
“Brakes are the largest out-of-service item in North America for commercial vehicles. We hope to focus on eliminating this problem by coming up with some solutions,” said Larry Stern, CVSA administrative director and conference coach. “Hopefully, by focusing in on brakes we can also reduce the number of brake-related crashes and fatalities on the roads of North America.”
A proceedings report will be published based on the ideas and solutions for improved brake strategies proposed at the event.
Registration forms can be obtained through the CVSA website at www.cvsa.org.
