CF closes Yukon hub
WHITEHORSE, YT. — Canadian Freightways‘ Yukon headquarters was shuttered last week by its Montreal-based parent and paired with sister fleet Byers Transportation in the Marwell industrial area.
According to the WhiteHorse Daily Star, the decision to put both TransForce-owned companies under one, larger roof is a response to weak freight demand in Canada’s far north.
Canadian Freightways manger Gary Lewis, who will take over both operations, told the paper that CF will still be its own entity but Byers will mostly provide its service.
Canadian Freightways employed Lewis and two drivers. Both drivers have already found other driving jobs.
TransForce has consolidated several other terminals among its dozens of trucking nameplates.
