CF reorganizes Mexican operation

SAN ANTONIO (March 30) — Consolidated Freightways (CF) has expanded and centralized its Mexico division, aiming to give shippers direct less-than-truckload access to major markets in Mexico with no extra handling.

CF’s Mexico division now operates border gateways at Chula Vista and Calexico in California, and at Douglas and Nogales in Arizona. All four operations were part of CF’s U.S. division. Terminals in El Paso, Laredo, McAllen and Brownsville, Tex., also fall within the Mexico division. CF’s Mexico division now operates sixteen terminals total — nine in the U.S. and seven in Mexico connecting shippers to more than 50 locations south of the border.

The company said its border terminals in California and Arizona are major gateways to industrial and manufacturing centers south of the border, so it was logical to transfer them to its Mexico division, which is based in San Antonio.

Consolidated Freightways offers the only single-carrier link between the U.S., Canada, and Mexico.
