Champlain Bridge Ramps in “Mediocre” Condition
MONTREAL — According to the Montreal Gazette, a 2010 engineers’ report on the state of the Champlain Bridge asserts that two overpasses on the Montreal approach to the bridge are in “mediocre” condition.
The concrete on one of the overpasses is crumbling and the other has to undergo major repairs, according to the Gazette, which says it obtained the confidential report via an access-to information request.
The Nuns Island Bridge is also deteriorating and needs repairs, according to the same report.
The inspection was conducted by the Aecom engineering firm and coverd the entire Champlain Bridge corridor from the Atwater interchange to the South Shore. Generally, the structures were in “fair” condition but some parts, specifically those named above, were in inferior shape.
“Two are overpasses that cross over Bonaventure Auto-route access roads. They are in "mediocre" condition, which is one notch better than the worst grade – "deficient," Aecom found.
