Changes at the top: Cabano Kingsway Group ranked Canada’s largest for-hire fleet
TORONTO (March 1) — After a year marked by acquisitions, Cabano Kingsway Group emerged as the largest for-hire trucking company in Canada, according to an annual survey conducted by Today’s Trucking magazine.
The ranking, published in the magazine’s March issue, is determined by the number of class-6 to class-8 vehicles based in Canada a company operates.
Cabano Kingsway Group, ranked No. 12 in 1998, jumped to the top spot on the strength of four acquisitions last year, including Groupe Papineau of St-Jerome, Que. The moves boosted the company’s total fleet to 4750 pieces of equipment.
Cabano Kingsway’s profit continued to grow, as well. In 1998, the company showed net income of $2.02 million on revenues of $141.9 million, and its operating ratio descended from 102.3 in 1995 and 1996 to 95.9 last year.
Completing the top 10, in descending orde of rank: Trimac Transportation Services, Calgary; Mullen Transportation Inc., Aldersyde, Alta.; Clarke Inc., Toronto; J.D. Irving Ltd., Saint John; TransX, Winnipeg; Schneider National Carriers Canada, Aberfoyl, Ont.; Groupe Robert, Boucherville, Que.; Contrans Corp., Woodstock, Ont.; and SLH Transport, Kingston, Ont.
A complete list will be posted at the Today’s Trucking web site on March 8, coinciding with publication of the March issue.
