Charge of the light-truck brigade
RALEIGH, N.C. — Say you’re doing deliveries in one of those all-electric delivery vans and you run out of electricity. Who’re you going to call?
Stateside, leastways, it’s AAA to the rescue.
The American Auto club announced this week that starting in August, it will be testing a fast-charging truck that will be dispatched to help stranded e-vehicles.
For starters (get it?) AAA will have six “mobile charging units,” in states including California, Washington, Oregon, Florida, Tennessee and Georgia.
The service will come at two levels (like premium and unleaded) The fast charger can refill the Nissan Leaf’s battery to 80% in half an hour.
According to USA Today, Nissan offers complimentary towing for Leaf owners who run out of power, but not a quick-charge service.
And earlier this year, several car manufacturers announced that they will also test mobile chargers to re-power stalled electric cars.
