Check your truck for Roadcheck

TORONTO — Truckers traveling on North American highways may notice a few more boys in black and blue off to the side as the annual, 72-hour Roadcheck enforcement blitz kicks off today.

The event, sponsored by Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance and conducted by federal, state, provincial and local officers in Canada, the U.S., and Mexico, consists of North American Standard Inspections around the clock for the next three days.

The inspections involve a comprehensive 37-step procedure that includes items related to vehicle, driver and cargo safety. Officers also will be giving drivers educational materials on various aspects of commercial vehicle, driver and hazardous materials safety.

This year inspectors will focus on seat-belt use, as well as other inspection points.

Brake adjustment and brake system problems are consistently the top two vehicle out of service criteria at Roadcheck.

About 10,000 CVSA-certified truck and bus safety inspectors were on duty inspecting commercial vehicles last year, with more than 60,000 inspections performed.
