Clarke in the buying mood again
HALIFAX — After scaling back trucking operations over the last few years, transportation, warehousing and IT company Clarke Inc. says it will increase investment in Clarke Road Transport Inc. by pursuing acquisition opportunities.
Along with Clarke Transport, Clarke Road is the company’s trucking arm, providing truckload services within Atlantic Canada and the East Coast and all major urban destinations in Central Canada and the U.S.
Clarke Road is on of the Atlantic’s fasting growing flatbed carriers, including full-load and a partial load. It also offers van services.
Through targeted acquisitions, the company plans on growing in refrigerated trucking operators, and other businesses that are complimentary to Clarke Road’s existing operations. Investments in the range of $5 to $50 million will be considered, Clarke says.
Clarke is not in negotiations with any company for the sale of Clarke Road, the company stated.
Clarke Inc., which was traditionally listed at the top five or 10 in Today’s Trucking’s annual Top 100 for-hire carrier list, slipped to 17th in 2006.
The company has sold off some of its trucking assets in recent years, including Andlauer Transportation and Concord Transportation in 2005.
