Clarke’s Armoyan takes leave of absence

HALIFAX — George Armoyan has requested some time away from the chairmanship of Clarke Inc. to attend to "personal family matters."

Hugh Smith, who served as chairman of the transport and investment firm until December 31, 2008, will resume the post of chairman. And Chief Operating Officer Rob Normandeau has been appointed to the board of directors of Clarke.

Smith, on behalf of the Board and management, indicated strong support for Armoyan as he works to resolve issues over the coming months.

Speaking to media, Smith wouldn’t comment on the reasons for the departure, saying only that they weren’t heath related.

Meanwhile, the company reports that Michael Andlauer has resigned his position as director of the company.

Last fall, Andlauer sold the retail transport division of Andlauer Transportation Services to TransForce.

"Mr. Andlauer will have an ongoing role with TransForce as a result of this transaction, and has elected to step down from the Clarke board to avoid any potential conflict," Clarke said in a press release.
