Class 8 Orders Still Weak, While 5-7 Models of Consistency

COLUMBUS, IN — While Class 5-7 continue to be “models of consistency,” the class 8 market continues to spin its wheels, bogged down with weak orders and falling backlogs, reported ACT Research.

Class 5-7 are in line with build and “steady, if low, backlogs.”

The heavy-duty market? Blame it on confidence, yet again.

“Concerning the heavy-duty market, we view the unusual pairing of weak orders and low cancellations as a reflection of today’s bifurcated truck market,” said Kenny Vieth, president and senior analyst at ACT. “To that end, we believe confidence is at a key component of the order pullback across a large swath of carriers.”
