CN extends RoadRailer service across BNSF network

MONTREAL (Octo. 23, 2000) — Canadian National Railway has extended its RoadRailer intermodal service into the southwestern United States through a service agreement with Burlington Northern and Santa Fe Railway.

The partnership links the intermodal networks of the two railways, which abandoned their merger earlier this year after U.S. regulators imposed an 18-month moratorium on railway mergers.

CN’s RoadRailer network, extended to Chicago last week, will now extend into California and Arizona over the BNSF network. CN and BNSF share an intermodal terminal in Chicago.

Burlington Northern’s refrigerated Ice Cold Express service for shippers of fruits and vegetables will also be extended beyond Chicago to Toronto and Montreal over CN lines, Canadian National said.
