CN to offer truck-competitive transcontinental intermodal service
TORONTO (June 26, 2000) — Canadian National introduced significantly improved transcontinental intermodal freight schedules that chop almost 24 hours off transit times between Toronto and Winnipeg, Saskatoon, Edmonton, Calgary, and Vancouver.
The railroad said it would initiate a transcontinental rail intermodal service to compete with expedited, transcontinental truck services in truckload and less-than-truckload segments. CN said it has added extra locomotive power to our trains and tightened terminal schedules, among other measures to improve effciency.
In a statement, the railroad said delivering a consistent, reliable intermodal service was “the top priority of our operating people.”
From Toronto, CN will offer second-morning service to Winnipeg, third-morning service to Saskatoon, Edmonton, and Calgary, and fourth-morning service to Vancouver. Most eastbound intermodal movements will also see day-faster transit times.
