Collenette keeps federal transport post

OTTAWA (Aug. 4, 1999) — Jean Chretien shuffled his cabinet yesterday, but Transport Minister David Collenette stayed put.

Trade Minister Sergio Marchi, however, was one of five cabinet members to lose their portfolio. Marchi, who reportedly has said he didn’t want to run in the next election, becomes Canada’s ambassador to the World Trade Organization.

Five other ministers moved to new positions, including Herb Dhaliwal from Revenue to Fisheries. Dhaliwal had been leading a review of Canada’s customs agency.
