Collision monitoring for Alberta carriers begins April 1
CALGARY, (March 9, 2004) — The Alberta Motor Transport Association is reminding carriers who hold an Alberta Safety Fitness Certificate under the Alberta National Safety Code that beginning April 1, collision information will be added to the Carrier Profile.
Currently, carriers are monitored for convictions, violations, and CVSA inspections on a Carrier Profile system.
Alberta Transportation will use the new collision information to further evaluate a carrier’s on-road safety performance, and intervene if the carrier’s collision history indicates a risk to the public. The government has stated, however, it will not initiate disciplinary action based on any collision that has been evaluated and determined non-preventable under the evaluation process. A carrier may submit a collision evaluation application at any time.
Applications will be forwarded from Alberta Transportation to the AMTA, who will administer the evaluations on the department’s behalf. Driver information, and where possible, the carrier’s name, will be removed from the application prior to sending the application to the AMTA. An application fee will be charged for each evaluation conducted.
To request an evaluation, a completed application must be sent to the Manager of National Safety Code and Operating Authority at 401, Provincial Building, 4920 – 51 Street, Red Deer, AB, T4N 6K8 – Phone (403) 340-5021, Fax (403) 340-4811.
