Con-Way opens TL brokerage
ANN ARBOR, Mich. (Jan. 2, 2002) — Less-than-truckload specialist Con-Way Transportation Services has opened a truckload brokerage operation that will provide service within the United States and into Canada.
The service, called Value Zone Full Load, will initially handle dry van freight only, the company said.
Con-Way will use new or existing contract arrangements with more than 2000 truckload fleet operators, according to president and CEO Gerald L. Detter.
“We’re on very familiar ground,” Detter said. “We contract with truckload carriers regularly for a portion of our linehaul service in our LTL operations, and we also manage a large group of contract operators in our Con-Way NOW expedite service. This experience has given us the expertise and systems necessary to manage a very substantial truckload brokerage operation.”
A central operations and customer service centre has been established in Ann Arbor, Mich.
Con-Way is a $2 billion US transportation subsidiary of CNF, based in Palo Alto, Calif.
