Conmet Unveils Simplex Fifth wheel refinements
Consolidated Metco introduced refined Simplex and Simplex II fifth wheels at the Mid-America Trucking Show in Louisville, Ky., in March. The company has changed its operating rod handle to a J-shaped design that allows drivers to use an extension rod for cleaner access in releasing the jaw when uncoupling. Further refinements to the operating rod provide a straight-pull release mechanism. There’s also a larger, more continuous top plate surface area, and a new eccentric pin for more precise slack adjustment in the jaw. A re-engineered jaw improves durability, while a visible pivot pin retainer creates easier accessibility for maintenance.
All of the latest improvements make the fifth wheel easier to use and maintain, the company says, resulting in a longer product life.
