Contrans buys Ontario flatbed steel hauler

WOODSTOCK, Ont. — Contrans Income Fund — parent company of Brookville Carriers, Laidlaw Carriers, and the ECL Carriers — has acquired 50-truck flatbed trucking firm L.A. Dalton Systems of Binbrook, Ont.

Utilizing a combination of company trucks and owner- operators, L.A. Dalton hauls mainly steel products in the Ontario, Michigan and the Ohio corridor. The company, which also dabbles in transporting foodstuffs, describes itself as a just-in-time carrier serving a niche of manufacturers and customers. The company recorded revenue of approximately $14.5 million in its most recent fiscal year.

Stan Dunford, CEO of Contrans, said that it would run L.A. Dalton as an independent operating unit with its existing management and staff.

“We are very pleased to have L.A. Dalton join the Contrans organization. This operation is a business that is very highly regarded in the industry for providing premium service, hiring the best drivers, and operating some of the best equipment in the industry,” Dunford said in a release. “The operating philosophies of L.A. Dalton and Contrans are very closely aligned making this such a natural fit within our group.”
