Cops seek 401 tosser targeting truckers
ST. THOMAS, Ont. – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) report that somebody’s been standing on a highway-401 overpass near this central Ontario town heaving stuff at passing tractor-trailers.
According to the St. Thomas Times Journal, cops are looking for a “full-grown” man and a parked car after an individual was seen tossing a rock at one passing semi and a sign at another, early Tuesday morning.
In both cases, the eastbound trucks’ windshields were smashed and in both the drivers escaped uninjured. The rock was lobbed at about a quarter to three in the morning, the sign shortly after.
"He [the guy who had the sign thrown at him] wasn’t injured but it came pretty close," said Const. Troy Carlson of the Elgin OPP. "That’s quite serious… [it] could have caused serious harm or even killed him."
One of the truckers reported he saw a "full grown" man as well as a parked car at the Union Road overpass when the incident occurred.
Const. Carlson said OPP are appealing for the public’s help and have asked that if anyone saw anything suspicious on Union Road around the time of the incident, they should call OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
