Council says there’s no plan to ban trucks

CORNER BROOK — Outcries by business leaders in Newfoundland over a supposed plan to ban trucks from downtown Corner Brook are premature, say local councilors.

According to the Corner Brook Western Star, there is no policy being proposed to ban heavy truck traffic from the city, says Coun. Josh Carey.

Last week, the Greater Corner Brook Board of Trade stated it was concerned over the possibility of truck ban.

Carey told the newspaper that the group acted too quickly in suggesting this policy was even being considered.

Carey said the committee has met, but not discussed the issue. It is an item on the agenda of its next meeting as well as Monday’s public meeting of council.
