CP Rail launches campaign for community charities
CALGARY (June 11, 2002) — Canadian Pacific Railway yesterday launched a community outreach campaign that includes a new charitable focus and long-term partnerships with non-profit groups.
The program, called Community Connect, replaces the charitable donations previously made on the railroad’s behalf by the Canadian Pacific Charitable Foundation, which closed last year as part of the spin-off of CP Ltd. companies.
CP Rail said the program aims to create multi-year partnerships with charities on both sides of the Canada-U.S. border. Currently, those charities include the Canadian Association of Food Banks, United Way, and the Breakfast for Learning Canadian Living Foundation.
The railroad said Community Connect is “a significant shift from broad-based charitable giving to a narrower focus on strategic partnerships and long-term commitments,” adding that charities are chosen for their ability to pass on the benefits of the contributions to a large number of communities.
