CPR workers’ union accepts last-ditch deal

CALGARY – The CAW and CP Rail reached a tentative labor deal this weekend, just days before 2,100 shopcraft and locomotive repair workers were set to walk off the job.

Details of the agreement weren’t released.

CP Rail was staring down a strike deadline for 12:01 a.m. Tuesday Feb. 8.

But a tentative agreement was reached after "nearly a week of around-the-clock negotiations," says CAW.

Canadian Auto Workers (CAW) Local 101, will vote to ratify the deal within the next three weeks.

The deal follows an agreement between the CAW and CN Rail two weeks ago.

About 4.000 clerical, intermodal workers, shopcraft workers and trucking owner-operators were set to strike before a last-minute deal on Jan. 24th.
