CSI Wireless joins vehicle tracking market

CALGARY (Oct. 23, 2000) — Calgary-based telecommunications company CSI Wireless unveiled vehicle tracking product that integrates GPS (Global Positioning System) with wireless packet data communications.

AssetVision was developed as a low-cost alternative to satellite-based systems for tracking, monitoring, and managing vehicles and assets. It communicates across the MicroBurst cellular network managed by Aeris.net, which encompasses the United States, Canada, Mexico, and much of South America, the company says.

The MicroBurst network can be used for vehicle position and condition reporting, security, navigation, vehicle and door-lock control, airbag deployment notification, and emergency dispatch. The company is also working with customers with commercial fleet management applications including remote monitoring of engines, oil pressure, fuel, runtime hours, and geo-fencing in addition to typical location-based information.
