CTA centralizes cargo-crime data collection
LANGLEY, B.C. — The Canadian Trucking Alliance (CTA) has teamed up with the Insurance Bureau of Canada (IBC) to implement a new CTA Cargo Crime Incident Report form.
The form will help establish a nation-wide database to help with the analysis, investigation and law enforcement related to cargo crime, according to a press release.
In a research report earlier this year, the CTA noted that cargo crime is often unreported, and when it is reported, there is no central agency to collect and access that data. Data collection is necessary to gain additional resources, understand the issue, and create countermeasures to combat cargo crime.
The CTA will only share the information with the IBC and the law enforcement community. Unless permission is given, a carrier’s identity is kept confidential.
