CTHRC president Sam Barone resigns
OTTAWA (Aug. 24, 1999) — Sam Barone, who for three years tried to guide the sometimes divergent factions comprising the Canadian Trucking Human Resources Council toward a unified aim, has resigned as president, the group said yesterday.
The CTHRC developed and administers the “Earning Your Wheels” driver training program, intended as a minimum training standard for training schools to follow. The group was formed in 1993 by the then-Canadian Trucking Association, the Private Motor Truck Council, the Teamsters, the Canadian Auto Workers, and the Com Car Owner Operators Association.
To date, the CTHRC has certified about 20 schools to teach its curriculum. Schools were initially reluctant to use it because the rigorous training requirements made it expensive to administer.
The CTHRC has also developed additional, shorter supplementary courses for more experienced drivers to upgrade their skills.
Former CP Bulk president George Lloyd will serve as interim president until a replacement for Barone is found.
