Cummins reorganizes its engine business
COLUMBUS, Ind. (Sept. 24, 1999) — Cummins Engine Co. will combine its automotive and industrial business units into a single engine business group.
Reorganizing into three business units — engines, power generation, and filtration — will help the company focus more effectively on customers and competitors, many of which are in both the automotive and industrial sectors, Cummins president Tim Solso said.
Cummins, the world’s largest producer of diesel engines above 200 horsepower, wants to make better use of common assets across the company, including plants, technical centres, and distributors, Solso added.
The new engine unit will be led by F.J. (Joe) Loughrey, currently executive vice-president and president of the company’s industrial business. Loughrey will also continue in his role as chief technical officer for the company.
Loughrey effectively replaces Roberto Cordaro, who is resigning effective Oct. 1 as the head of the company’s engine business.
