Cummins, Westport venture yields first sales

VANCOUVER, B.C. (April 11, 2001) — Cummins Inc. and Westport Innovations Inc. announced that their recently-formed joint venture has received sales orders from Norcal Waste Systems Inc. of San Francisco for 13 low-emissions, natural gas Cummins ISX heavy-duty truck engines using Westport’s High Pressure Direct Injection (HPDI) fuel system.

The engines will be installed in Peterbilt model 378 chassis. Cummins and Paccar, Peterbilt’s corporate parent, signed a long-term engine supply agreement earlier this
month. Each of the trucks will use a 15-litre, Cummins ISX 400 horsepower engine.

Norcal operates a fleet of approximately 1,400 vehicles and provides solid waste management services for more than 400,000 residential and 50,000 commercial and industrial customers in San Francisco and more than 50 other communities in California.
