DaimlerChrysler brings truck units together
BERLIN, Germany — Automotive and commercial vehicle giant DaimlerChrysler announced it will eliminate about 6,000 jobs and reorganize several units, including its truck divisions, in a cost-cutting move that is expected to save about $1.2 billion a year.
According to Associated Press and other media, the company’s Commercial Vehicles Division will now focus on commercial trucks as its core business and operate under the banner DaimlerChrysler Truck Group.
The division will include Mercedes-Benz in Europe and Latin America; Trucks NAFTA Freightliner, Sterling and Thomas Built Buses; and Mitsubishi Fuso Bus and Truck Corp. in Asia.
“The new structure will create further synergies between the regional truck units and brands, and allow the Truck Group to accelerate its profit potential initiative called Global Excellence,” DaimlerChrysler stated in a release.
