Dana expands diff-lock application to 060 drives
The commercial vehicle systems group at Dana Corp. has expanded the applications for its traction-control, limited-slip differential for medium-duty trucks to include vehicles equipped with the Dana Spicer 060 Series of single-drive axles.
Dana’s design lets the differential perform like an open differential under normal driving conditions while automatically transferring torque to the wheel that needs the highest amount of traction. With a maximum continuous torque range of 2,500 to 25,000 pounds-feet, the differential can transfer up to 3.5 times more torque to the high traction wheel by using helical side gears and pinions.
“Vocational fleets, particularly those in regional locations where surface conditions require additional traction to better handle rain, snow, and sleet-like conditions, will realize a significant improvement in vehicle handling,” says Dana product development manager Steve Slesinski. “Our limited-slip differential activates automatically when the vehicle encounters treacherous road conditions, delivering additional torque to the wheels that need it the most.”
The product was previously available only for vehicles with the Dana Spicer 135 and 150
