Dana introduces new class 4/5 single drive axle

Dana
The new Dana Spicer S110 drive axle, for the class 4 and 5 truck market, is said to be ideal for a variety of truck applications, including conventional vans, walk-in vans, motor homes, utility and landscape vehicles, and city delivery trucks.

It offers several popular features and options for all drivetrain configurations that require axle weight ratings from 10,000 to 14,500-pounds, GVW ratings up to 23,500-pounds, and GCW up to 35,000-pounds.

Features include: a 300-mm hypoid gearing and wheel differential specifically designed to maximize strength and increase axle life when used with the latest high-horsepower engines; a bolted oval axle carrier assembly, welded housing cover, and flat-bottom axle housing increase ground clearance; a high-capacity integral precision pinion bearing system lessens deflection under heavy load, increasing pinion gear and bearing system life; a new one-piece steel-forged ring gear/differential case increases stiffness for greater reliability; and the long face width primary gear teeth have been designed to reduce gear stress and promote smooth quiet operation, the company says.

To meet the needs of a variety of vehicle configurations, the S110 series drive axle is offered in a wide range of axle ratios from 3.07 to 6.50. An optional full-locking driver-controlled
differential lock or the unique limited-slip differential that provides an automated mechanical traction system for uninterrupted torque output to the wheels can be specified. Other popular options offered include an axle-mounted parking brake or an axle-mounted electromagnetic retarder feature. Various wheel-end and track-width configurations are also available.
