Dana makes one-millionth steer axle

TOLEDO, Ohio — Dana Corp. has produced its one-millionth E-series steer axle at its Humboldt, Tenn., manufacturing facility.

The axle was built as a complete assembly with a Paccar-proprietary front suspension, along with Bendix air disc brakes and Spicer LMSTM aluminum hubs. The assembly was sequenced to Kenworth’s facility in Renton, Wash., for use with a new Kenworth T660 aerodynamic long-haul conventional chassis.

Originally introduced in 1993, the E-series axle has gone through numerous design enhancements to help it for exceed customers’ demanding requirements today. It is one of Dana’s most popular steer axles.

The Spicer E-1202I steer axle features an exclusive one-piece integral arm forged knuckle for reduced weight; a large kingpin diameter for improved durability and reduced maintenance; two drawkey kingpin retention screws for improved alignment capability and reduced maintenance; and a power rib beam design for improved alignment capability.

Dana’s Commercial Vehicle Systems group designs, manufactures, and markets front-steer, rear-drive, trailer, and auxiliary axles; driveshafts; steering shafts; suspensions; and related systems, modules, and services for the commercial vehicle market.
