Dana restructures engineering group to focus on integrated systems

TOLEDO, Ohio (July 2, 1999) — Dana Corp.’s Automotive Systems Group has restructured its engineering organization to focus more on developing integrated components for cars and commercial trucks.

The company said select engineers who had worked separately on axles, driveshafts, steering and suspension systems, and brakes will work together as a team, called Advanced Technologies and Systems Engineering. The engineers will work closely with original equipment manufacturers to help improve vehicle assembly and performance.

“This is another step in moving from a product supplier to a systems integration organization,” said Bill Carroll, president of the Automotive Systems Group. “By focusing this group of advanced engineers on integrated systems, (we can) share enabling technologies across product lines, and bring integrated system thinking to the entire organization.”

The team will report to Mike Laisure, vice-president of modules and systems, and will be located at Dana’s Technical Resource Park in Ottawa Lake, Mich.

Dana’s Automotive Systems Group consists of Spicer axle and driveshaft products, Parish structural products, Nakata steering and suspension, FTE brake and clutch systems, and a systems engineering integration and logistics unit.
