Dates slated for Princess Margaret Bridge facelift

FREDERICTON, N.B. — The Princess Margaret Bridge in Fredericton will be closed from May 8 to September for the final stages of repair.

The Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure said this next phase of the bridge overhaul could be more challenging because it begins while school is in session.

“Last year’s five-week closure went smoothly because the relative of Fredericton were prepared and extremely co-operative," said minister Claude Williams.

The starting day of the closure could change depending on weather conditions, however.

Repairs include replacement of bridge deck, traffic barriers, and refurbishing bridge piers.

The project will cost New Brunswick more than $80 million, and upon completion the bridge will be able to carry traffic for the next 50 years.
