Day & Ross buys Prairies food hauler

HARTLAND, N.B. — McCain Foods’ freight division,  Day & Ross Transportation, has acquired truckload carrier, G. Edwards Enterprises of Saskatoon.

Edwards hauls mainly produce, meat and other fresh and frozen food.

Day & Ross plans to integrate the Edwards terminal within its Fastrax division, uniting the capacity of both businesses for future growth.

President Jeff Edwards will join the management group of Day & Ross.

"Day & Ross is committed to the growth of its business throughout North America for the benefit of our current and future customers, and this acquisition will place us closer to that goal," says John Doucet, president and CEO.

Doucet says the deal gives Day & Ross a modern terminal in Saskatoon "which opens up new lanes in Western Canada for our truckload network and we gain capacity to grow our LTL small package and dedicated businesses."

We are also fortunate that, further strengthening our team. As an owner and key decision maker at Edwards, Jeff’s knowledge and enthusiasm for the business will be a significant asset as we work to leverage the full potential of this new opportunity."
