Deal allows carriers, drivers to appeal more types of CVOR entries

TORONTO, (Sept. 22, 2004) — Ontario carriers will now be able to appeal additional types of entries on their Commercial Vehicle Operators Registration (CVOR).

The Ontario Trucking Association has struck a deal with the the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Ontario Ministry of Transportation (MTO), and the Transportation Health and Safety Association of Ontario (THSAO), which extends the appeal process to include accidents in which charges were laid but a conviction was not registered, because the charge was either dismissed, withdrawn, quashed or stayed, or there was an acquittal.

Accidents are entered on CVOR records and adjudicated based on information that appears on the Motor Vehicle Accident Report. At the present time the CVOR points associated with each accident can be appealed, but the appeal is restricted to those accidents in which charges were not laid.

The appeal process has also been extended to include the ability of drivers to appeal the CVOR points associated with each accident as they appear on the driver CVOR record.

Each accident can be appealed to the CVOR Accident Review Panel, which is administered by the Transportation Health and Safety Association of Ontario (THSAO).

Details of the process can be found on the THSAO website at www.thsao.on.ca or call (416) 242-4771.

The changes become effective on September 20, 2004.
