Delta expansion project on track: VPA
VANCOUVER — The Vancouver Port authority is quickly making progress on its $400 million initiative to expand existing container operations at the Deltaport container terminal at Roberts Bank, in Delta, B.C.
The Deltaport Third Berth Project will increase capacity at Deltaport by 400,000 TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units) by adding a third berth and 20 hectares of container storage facilities to the existing two-berth container terminal.
The third berth at Deltaport will be operated by TSI, a private company that operates the existing Deltaport container terminal.
The project is part of the VPA’s overall strategy to expand container capacity in order to accommodate consumer and business-driven demand for trade on the west coast.
So far, contractors have completed constructions of the perimeter dike and dredging turning and tug basins.
Caisson construction, placement of mattress rock and replacement fill in caisson trench, and saltwater marsh log removal are either in progress or almost complete.
