Driver training group schedules symposium

OTTAWA (April 18, 2001) — The Canadian Trucking Human Resources Council announced plans to hold a summit on driver training, hiring, and retention Oct. 12-14 in Winnipeg.

The event will include a panel discussion on hiring and retention in the industry, followed by five workshops over an intense two-day period. The closing program will feature a presentation on how the trucking and driver training industries are working with governments to set training standards, and panel discussions will address the benefits of a national training standard.

Based in Ottawa, the CTHRC is a private, independent, not-for-profit corporation created to set national standards for industry employees; develop training programs to be delivered by training centres across the country; accredit training centres to deliver the programs; certify new and existing workers who complete the programs; and maintain a registry of certified professional drivers.
