Eaton’s MD Line Plugs You Into Workings Of Your Rig
Eaton Corp. signaled its entry into the diagnostic tools business with a new handheld service tool and adapter that connects the tool to your PC. Introduced last month, they’re the first foray in a line of products Eaton developed for the commercial truck markets with AutoXray, a maker of diagnostic tools for cars.
The Eaton MD-200 hand-held device can simultaneously monitor a host of powertrain components, including engine components, for any trucks with SAE J1587 and J1939 data links. It can perform two basic functions-scanning for fault codes and linking your PC to vehicle components using J1587 and J1939 communications. Later this year, Eaton will release software to help you isolate datalink problems, monitor vehicle component communications on the datalink, and record up to one hour of communication link data.
The Eaton Vehicle Link Adapter is a micro-processor-based interface for PC-to-vehicle communications and is the main link between the vehicle and your Windows-based service applications. Providing easy connectivity through a PC’s serial port, it can translate J1587, J1708, and J1939 vehicle standards, is TMC compatible with RP1210A and RP1202 standards, and supports Windows 95, 98, 200, NT, XP, and ME systems.
“Our new service tools are not only highly functional, they are also highly affordable,” says product manager Rich VanSlambrouck. The Eaton MD scan function costs about $700 US, half the cost of what is typically available today.
