Electronic flare signals flame-free alternative
Firing up an incendiary flare ain’t such a hot idea when the smell of fuel is in the air. Chances are you’re in enough trouble already.
An alternative to flames on the pavement is the SOS TurboFlare, an electronic road flare that produces a brilliant light from 20 LEDs that flash 200 times per minute. The flare will run for at least 100 hours on a set of four C-cell batteries, and so you’re not caught short, there’s a warning light when the remaining battery life is about 20 per cent.
The unit is compact-each one weighs about a pound and is roughly eight inches in diameter and two inches high. Red or amber LEDs are standard, and the lens and body are weatherproof and shockproof. Promotional material from the product’s Canadian distributor, Adams Industrial Supplies, shows one of the units being rolled over by a car wheel.
