Export group wants feds to polish Atlantic rail system
MONCTON, N.B. — A business group wants Transport Canada to improve the region’s rail system in order to enhance the movement of freight to the U.S.
David Plante of Canadian Manufacturers and Exporters, reports Canadian Press, says fuel and new equipment costs in trucking could make rail a more attractive option for southbound freight. But he says major improvements in New Brunswick’s rail infrastructure are needed first.
The quality and service of rail system in the province has eroded, he says, adding that the government should formally evaluate the rail network in the region.
