Federal Liberal report endorses ethanol, biodiesel
OTTAWA (April 1, 2002) — The federal Liberal caucus has proclaimed support for ethanol, biodiesel, and other so-called renewable fuels in Canada.
The report, drafted by the federal caucus working group on environmental technologies and delivered to Cabinet last week, calls for the removal of the excise tax on biodiesel and the implementation of a Renewable Fuels Standard in Canada (RFS). An RFS would see a certain percentage of renewable fuel mandated by law into fuel in Canada similar to what Europe and the United States have introduced.
The report, delivered to Cabinet last week, was sponsored by 33 Liberal MPs.
