FedEx Ground wins prestigious ATA safety award
PITTSBURGH, Pa. (Sept. 28, 2004) — FedEx Ground, the small-package ground delivery unit of FedEx Corp. has for the third time received the transportation industry’s most prestigious safety award, the President’s Trophy, from the American Trucking Associations (ATA).
The President’s Trophy is presented annually by the ATA to the transportation company with the best safety program for the previous calendar year. FedEx Ground — which earned the honor in the 100-million-miles plus category — also was awarded in 1996 and 2000. The company remains the only carrier to win the award with a fleet composed entirely of independent contractors.
“We are proud and honored to receive the President’s Trophy again,” Daniel J. Sullivan, president and chief executive officer of FedEx Ground, said in a release “This is a testament to the commitment of 17,000 independent contractors in FedEx Ground vehicles who — with every mile driven, every package delivered — make safety a top priority for themselves, our customers and the general public.”
The trophy recognizes companies with the most outstanding records of safe operation and the best programs to promote safety throughout the trucking industry and among all highway users.
