FedEx to re-brand Viking, AF units as FedEx Freight
MEMPHIS, Tenn. (Feb. 8, 2002) — In a move designed to strengthen its presence in the less-than-truckload market, FedEx Corp. will re-brand two of its operating companies, American Freightways and Viking Freight, as FedEx Freight.
The companies will continue to maintain separate operations, but both will be branded with the familiar FedEx graphic. Re-branding the nearly 40,000 pieces of equipment at AF and Viking is expected to take up to 36 months.
FedEx has offered LTL freight service since 1998, when it acquired Caliber System, which included the Western regional LTL carrier Viking Freight. In 2001 FedEx Corp. acquired American Freightways, a regional LTL carrier operating in the U.S. Midwest, South, and Northeast. Both companies offer service in Canada through interline agreements.
