Ferry’s new fuel surcharge close to 10%
PORT AUX BASQUES, Nfld. — Every new seasonal quarter seems to bring with it another fuel surcharge by Marine Atlantic. And this spring is no different. In fact, the North Sydney-Port aux Basques truck and cargo ferry recently announced its largest single hike in a while.
Starting tomorrow, April 1, Marine Atlantic’s fuel surcharge will be 9.9 percent and applied to the posted tariff rate for passengers, passenger vehicles and commercial vehicles. All rates are based on one-way transportation.
The company says the steep increase reflects skyrocketing fuel prices in the region. It says the surcharge will be reviewed again in June.
The vehicle rate does not include the driver or passengers. A 13 percent HST will be applied to accommodation rates.
