First public meeting scheduled over Calais-St.Stephen crossing

AUGUSTA, Maine (Nov. 16, 1999) — Transport officials from Maine and New Brunswick will hold a public meeting to solicit feedback about where to place a new international crossing station in the Calais-St. Stephen border area.

The event, an open house, will be held Dec. 1 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. (Atlantic time) at the St. Stephen Legion Hall at 43 Queen St. in St. Stephen, N.B. Dept. of Transportation officials from Maine and New Brunswick will be on hand to hear concerns and suggestions.

Officials from both departments have been working together to study the economic impact of the crossing, environmental considerations, and traffic flow before settling on a location. A decision is expected next year, with construction to be complete by 2003.
