Flying J opens London, Ont., travel plaza — finally

LONDON, Ont. (April 13, 2001) — Flying J officially opened its truck stop in London, Ont., three years after it first filed its application for the building with the city’s planning department.

The $12 million travel plaza is located at the corner of Hwy. 401 and Highbury Ave., previously agricultural land. The project was opposed by activists who feared that it would spur additional changes in zoning laws that would allow further development.

Based in Brigham City, Utah, Flying J owns 146 travel plazas in North America. It built two others in Canada — in Napanee, Ont., and Vaudreuil, Que. — while the London project crept through the planning process.
