FMCSA extends conspicuity deadline

WASHINGTON, D.C. (June 11, 2001) — The U.S. Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration has extended the deadline for chassis operators to comply with a controversial new conspicuity rule to Dec. 1, 2001.

The extension applies to all chassis manufactured prior to Dec. 1, 1993, approximately 181,000 vehicles.

The original deadline — June 1 — still applies to 12,000 domestic intermodal chassis container/trailers manufactured prior to December 1993.
